Our Coordinator: Emna Ben Arab

A Ph.D, Culture Studies (Univ. of La Manouba, Tunis/UCR, USA/Reading Univ., UK). Main research interests are in American studies. Currently teaching as an assistant professor in the English Department at Sfax Faculty of Letters and Humanities (University of Stax, Tunisia). Lectures mainly on American foreign policy, history of political ideas, political discourse analysis, and science fiction and culture.

Co-director of Schooling Plus, a private language school, and an education consultant.

Kyle Showalter ( 2013-2014) is a 29 year old American who loves people. He is passionate about learning and getting to know people from all over the world. In the past 9 years, he has visited over 50 countries. He thinks every person is interesting and intriguing if you just get to know them. His hobbies include a wide variety of sports and books, but his favorite ‘hobby’ is just hanging out and talking with people, especially friends and family. He believes pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is one of the best possible ways to mature and grow your character. He is constantly amazed at how similar we all are, even though we come from such different cultures and backgrounds. He loves discovering God’s beauty and creativity in every person, place, and thing.

Sarah Jasmine Knight (2012) is a 22 year old American living in Sfax. She recently graduated from university after studying international affairs. She enjoys traveling and wandering and after leaving her small California hometown, she has lived in three other countries and two other continents. In her free time (no matter where she’s living) she likes to study Arabic, do yoga and go swimming. Here in Sfax, she can be found teaching English to students of all ages and sitting in cafes soaking up the Tunisian sun.

Brittany Mullett (2011-2012) is a 26 year old American enjoying her second year in Sfax. Her prior residences include Bursa, Turkey and Taipei, Taiwan but she considers Boulder, Colorado to be “home”. She is always looking for a new adventure, whether it’s scuba-diving in an extinct volcano in Nicaragua, surfing in Australia, sledding in Switzerland or rock-climbing in the beautiful state of Colorado. She is passionate about books, animals, the outdoors, discovering new cultures and teaching! Her life motto is simple: “Do all things with love.”

Our Tunisian Teachers

Sana Chakroun (2011) is a 25 year old Tunisian girl. She lives in Sfax, Tunisia with my caring parents, lovely brother and two wonderful sisters. Her hobbies include listening to music, watching movies and documentaries and taking care of animals. Do any pets live with her family? Ohh yes! She has a dog and a big family of turtles: four big ones and nine babies. She is a lover of the English language. That is why teaching English and pursuing her postgraduate studies in Linguistics at the same time would not be so difficult for her. Traveling abroad especially to the USA, UK and Australia is one of her dreams. Last but not least, she would describe herself as a peaceful and caring person who enjoys having fun with friends.

Najla Fki (2011- ) is a 25 year old Tunisian girl who enjoys living in a small house with her lovely parents in the beautiful city, her hometown, Sfax. She has got a BA degree in the English language and she currently teaches kids in a private center in Sfax. Is this her dream job? Definitely not. Teaching at university has always been her ultimate goal and she is fond of research especially in the area of Linguistics. That is why, she is intent on carrying her postgraduate studies aside from work. The activities she enjoys doing are mainly reading Jane Austen’s books and watching romantic comedies. Oh yeah, she is a softie par excellence! She has a strong passion for babies and pets. Her utmost joy is to spend her free time babysitting her cherished nephew and taking care of her cute cats. One last thing about her is that she loves making new friends at all times. She even believes she can be friends with the whole world.

Wafa Chakroun (2011) has two B.A diplomas: one in English and one in marketing . For her, teaching is not only to make pupils learn something but also inspire them.Actually, this quote “The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires” by William A. Ward is one of her favourites . As for her interests in life, she loves experiencing new adventures, knowing new people and discovering new and different cultures. She always does these through her engagements in some cultural associations. Her main hopes are to travel and visit lots of countries in the future and to be able to bring a valuable contribution, even a small one, to her country.

Fedia Ben Maallem (2012) is a 27 year old Tunisian girl who enjoys living in a small family, with caring parents and her brother. She also has a married sister and an adorable niece. She has a lot of friends with whom she can share all the beautiful moments of her life! She started teaching after receiving her BA degree. She says, “You can’t believe how exciting teaching is when you see your pupils’ faces satisfied.” Her hobbies include reading romantic novels, traveling and learning other languages (Turkish, Italian, German…) She teaches English to young learners at a Youth House and at a private school, but one of her dreams came true when she was accepted as a Business English teacher at a universiy in Sfax named ISGI. She would describe herself as a passionate person, who cares for all people. Her dream is to teach in Palestine to those who cannot afford for their education, because she believes they deserve to be educated and live a good life.

Feyza Ghribi (2011- ) 27 years old. To be a teacher was definitely the dream of her life.

Her English teachers had the greatest influence on forging that dream. This was not the sole reason that led her to choose a teaching career; actually the continued support of her family has allowed her to embrace her dream. Her hobbies are mainly traveling,watching American movies and documentaries and surfing the net.

The year 2008 was a remarkable point in her life as it witnessed her graduation from Sfax Faculty of Arts and Humanities.Teaching for her is not a job; it is an art. An art hidden behind a load of responsibilities She believes that she is a teacher who students can easily trust. One who can « go the extra mile » to ensure their success!

Hanen Farjallah (2011- ) is an English teacher. She is currently teaching at the Faculty of Medicine in Sfax. She’s passionate about teaching and is also interested in research and new technologies. In her free time she enjoys shopping and chatting with her friends. Traveling around the world is one of her dreams.

Fatma Bouhlel (2017) is a 24 year old Tunisian girl. She has got an MA degree in Business English and she currently teaches kids in a private school in Sfax. She genuinely believes that teaching is a work of heart: for her, Inspiration and motivation are essential for utmost illumination.
She is fond of reading. Her greatest joy is to spend her free time reading books by her favorite authors. She is also quite ambitious and adventurous: she wants to travel around the world and discover different cultures.

Sonia Hazzemi is a teacher of English,graduated from University of Sfax in 2012 with a BA in English .She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in English for Communication.She is keen and very willing to learn and develop new skills .

She has been teaching for more than 2 years   at  Schooling +. Her main goal is to find a chance to connect with other English teachers  and to get effective and innovative methods of teaching . In fact ,her teaching experience was enriched by her involvement in the English Access Micro scholarship  Program which gives her the chance to be an observer and reflector and care a lot for students’ needs .It sets her on the truck of professional teaching .

In 2015,she earned her Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT). It was an amazing  experience.Actually,  she is a new born teacher ,who reflects at all times on herself ,her lessons and her students.
Outside of school ,Sonia spends time with her lovely nephews.Indeed,being an aunt has been one of the most rewarding things she’s ever done ,she  can’t wait to do it all over again .
Sonia is extremely family oriented .If she could reside forever in any place in the entire world , it would be anywhere her family is , because she absolutely cannot live without them.
In her free time Sonia enjoys cooking ,running ,riding horses ,swimming and scuba diving.

A typical Tunisian who has a lot to offer, Faouzi Hakim (2012-2013) loves his home town (SFAX) and enjoys a simple life with his family and friends. A freelance translator and a teacher who keeps trying different techniques, he values his work and takes it seriously. Reading books, writing poetry and especially singing among other things are the activities he likes the most. He likes to share his interests and opinions with others too. He is usually persistent and certainly believes in team work. Apart from his simple dream; to settle down and start a family, he dreams of a better world one in which people would peacefully coexist despite their differences
